Palettes of Keuka Call for Artists

The Palettes Committee of the Hammondsport Chamber of Commerce has announced that they
are seeking artists for the 2010 "Palettes of Keuka". Now in its 4th year this event has been well received drawing terrific response from local residents and tourists alike. The event provides a venue for experiencing Art both inside and out at various locations in Hammondsport and surrounding Keuka lake. Artists are provided with large "Artist Palette" shaped backgrounds and encouraged to paint what they will, (which opens the door to a diverse and interesting assemblage of subject matter).

This event is aimed at two goals specifically.

First and foremost, residents and visitors to our area can experience more art by simply stumbling upon these "palettes" as they travel through the area or by following a map showing each location. The map, that is provided at each palette location as well as in the Hammondsport visitor's center, also features a puzzle which can be solved using clues found at each palette location. Completed puzzles can then be entered into a drawing for prizes.

Secondly, Money's raised from the sale of these palettes at the end of the summer are used to support and encourage the arts in Hammondsport and the surrounding region. The art fund is administered by the Hammondsport chamber of commerce and is used for such things as purchasing supplies for summer youth art programs and sponsoring event art poster competitions, etc.

Endless Mountain Music Festival

Endless Mountain Music Festival Partners with the Rockwell Museum of Western Art for a Special Fundraiser at the Rockwell Museum in Corning, NY

CORNING, NY - The Rockwell Museum of Western Art is continuing its Music in the Galleries series by collaborating with the Endless Mountain Music Festival in presenting an evening of classical music with a twist. On Friday, March 19 at 7 p.m., the Rockwell Museum's Visions of the West gallery will be alive with the sounds of the Sweet Plantains String Quartet - a refreshingly new string quartet bridging the gap between generations and musical genres.

Artfully fusing Western classical traditions with hip hop, jazz and Latin rhythms, the Sweet Plantains original writing and live shows educate and entertain. Separately hailing from the South Bronx, New Jersey and Venezuela, together these musicians give voice to a sound that is contemporary, multicultural and very New York.

The concert will be held in the Visions of the West gallery at the Rockwell Museum of Western Art on Friday, March 19, 2010 at 7:00 pm. Refreshments and hors d'oeuvres will be provided throughout the evening. M&T Bank, a corporate sponsor to this event, has helped to underwrite the program.

For reservations, please call 570-787-7800 or go online to http://www.endlessmountain.net/. General admission is $50 and sponsor admission is $100 with the following benefits: one general admission reservation, two tickets to the Endless Mountain Music Festival concert in August and pre-concert party on the Rockwell Museum of Western Art Terrace, one-year membership to Rockwell Museum, & 10% discount at the Rockwell Trading Post Shop.

This joint fundraising event will provide funds to present the Endless Mountain Music Festival concert in the Corning area scheduled for August 2010 as well as future educational activities at the Rockwell Museum of Western Art.

Keuka College Lightner Gallery Exhibit

Fragments of Time, an exhibit of portraits by Instructor of Art Melissa Newcomb, will be on display in the Keuka College Lightner Gallery through March 31.

"I've always been interested in portraits through various media," said Newcomb. "To me, a portrait is not just a preservation of likeness but an individual with a life and story. I've always been a people person and liked hearing people's stories. Through various works of art, I have captured the portrait through fragments of time brought to life through my story."

Part of the exhibit features a variety of colorful paintings of dolls, which viewers can relate through the expression and emotion of play and dress, according to Newcomb.
The exhibit also features photographs captivating the beauty of dolls with a printed book titled Captivate.
