Phil Shapiro and Carrie Shore choose fascinating, energetic songs from the last couple of hundred years of American traditional folk song, and add newer songs written squarely in the folk tradition. With his fine finger-style guitar playing, Shapiro creates lively accompaniments to songs which tell good stories. Shore started out learning violin in the 4th grade but now plays traditional tunes and bluesy, slinky improvisations on the instrumental breaks. Together, they offer a delightful program of American folk music, old and new. It makes a nice change to a performing circuit sometimes dominated by singer-songwriters to have some real, old fashioned folk singers among us, to help us keep the good old songs alive.

Shapiro learns songs from the cream of the folk musician crop. While has been entertaining folk audiences throughout New York State and beyond, for over 40 years, he is, however, best known as the host of WVBR's Bound for Glory radio show. It is North America's longest-running live folk concert broadcast, on Sunday nights, Ithaca, N.Y., since 1967, and webcast at wvbr.com.

That's where he hears some of the best music on the folk circuit. Shore has played more kinds of music in less time than practically anyone. Her fiddling is flexible and very exciting to hear. They both want the audience to be involved in the show, so come to listen and come to sing with us. This is community in action.
